Learn to Row

Adult Beginners - Learn to Row
Our program is designed for adults who are new to rowing and want to learn in a fun and supportive environment. It is open to all genders (however club membership if for women only). During the sessions you will learn basic terminology and boat safety, how to rig the boat, the rowing stroke, and rowing technique.
How it works:
- x4 sessions of 1.5 hours each, usually over consecutive weekends
- Personalised instruction in groups of four
- You will practice your technique on a rowing machine (ergo) and out on the water
- x2 sessions will be run in a Four/Sweep boat (1 oar per person), and x2 sessions in a Quad/Scull boat (2 oars per person)
One of our experienced coaches will be with you inside the boat to instruct you and answer any of your questions. They will also help get you in and out of the water safely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I form my own group?
If you would like to form your own group of four, please contact us and we can arrange times and dates to suit.
What physical ability do I need?
Rowing is a low-impact sport - if you can get in and out of a bathtub, you can row! But feel free to contact us if you're unsure.
Will I get wet?
Some small splashes may occur, but we have never had a class fall in.
We do require our Learn to Row class members to have the abilily to swim a minimum of 50 metres, and if not, they will be required to wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
Do I have to attend all 4 classes?
When you book we do require you to be able to attend the four classes advertised. We can’t offer make up classes for the ones you miss. If you can’t make the dates advertised, contact us and we’ll let you know when more are available.
What if the weather is bad?
We teach lessons in most weather unless it's unsafe such as high winds or lightening. If we do need to cancel a class due to bad weather the Coach will contact class members directly.
