About
The Y Rowing Club is housed within the boat bays on the ground floor of the Lakeside Pavilion Function Centre on Albert Park Lake in Melbourne. The club was founded in 1910 to provide rowing opportunities for women. While the Centre offers programs for all, membership is still open only to women.
A comprehensive history of the club can be downloaded here.
Recreational Rowing
The Club offers many recreational rowing opportunities, with sessions and squads spread across the week. Whether you're a beginner looking to advance your skills and fitness, you're returning to rowing but no longer want to compete, or you're a long term rower wanting to continue rowing in social and relaxed environment, our recreational squads are perfect! Most sessions end with a coffee and sometimes a wine, and of course lots of chats.
Competitive Rowing
The Y has been at the forefront of women's rowing, with its members the first to represent Australia at World Championships, and recording their first success at international level in 1979. In more recent years the Y has won gold in the Women’s Coxless 4 in 2015 and Silver in 2014.
The Club attends many regattas across the state and interstate, with dedicated weekly training sessions in preparation.
All members are eligible to participate in regattas, with Rowing Victoria registration and seats fees an additional cost.

Learn to Row | Come and Try
The Club prides itself on helping develop new rowers, to love the sport as much as we do! We run monthly courses (and 'Come & Try' days) that allow adults to learn the basic skills of rowing, in a fun, supportive and friendly environment. We also welcome returning rowers to come and try out the Club too.

Corporate Rowing
We have designed special single and multi-session daytime programs ideal for corporate team building. We cater to any organisation looking for an activity for participates of any age and gender, who are willing to give something new a try and get out on the water and have fun. Email us to discuss your options and to make a booking.
In the spirit of reconciliation the Y Rowing Club acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
